I want to share some of the thinking behind Waters: Redux, the second single from DestroyHer, which comes out tomorrow, July 31.
The song began as “Save Our Waters” in 2012, and I wanted to bring it back into the world because the questions inside it have not gone away. In this voice note I talk about the way we do one thing being the way we do everything. The way we treat water, women, land and each other. What does it mean to keep making art inside all of this, while we keep taking more than we need and treating water, land and people like they are here to be used?
I share some of the story of the original song too, the new verse, and why I asked my longtime friend Julian Taylor to be part of this version.
A small reminder that DestroyHer is available to pre-order now. There are vinyl and CD bundles at kinniestarr.ca, and I am very grateful to everyone helping this record come into the world.
Thanks for listening and being here for independent art.
