Did you know my first name, Alida, means Little Wing, Small Winged One and Royal?
I’ve been pretty skeptical about media since before I started in the music world. In fact, some of my first graffiti in the early 90's was a little hand drawn TV, with a slogan I made up, “Televalium Sedates You.”

Nowadays the role media plays through the internet is even more sedative. The sloganeering, truncated age of information has duped us into getting meaner, dumber, and wanting likes by any means necessary.
I participate in this because I’m caught in the cycle too. But I want more long form communication. If I’m going to be involved in music and art making in this era, I am going to try and make it more meaningful for me, and for anyone still listening.
This is why Small Winged Musings was created. I want to be able to share long form musings, videos, interactions and ideas. I know I’m not alone in wanting more meaning in communication so I’m hoping to build community in here and eventually be unplugged from the more banal sharing platforms.
So here we are.
First up: I have a new album on the horizon. It’s coming out on the Sept. 23 Equinox, and it’s called DestroyHer. It’s a rant, it’s joyous and furious and I’m really proud of it. It’s called DestroyHer because that’s the era we are in; the intersection between addiction to opioids, addiction to harassing and surveilling women and one another online a la Orwellian dystopia of 1984, addiction to misusing water and the land, addiction to the screen and to consumption.
Over here in Small Winged Musings, the Big Beautiful Fist of colonialism and misogyny are conversations, not weapons.
Welcome to this little corner of Kinnie Starr’s Uniserve.
